The vision for LifePoint Church originated in the hearts of some men in a Thursday night Bible study in Greenville. On July 24, 2003 during their regular meeting, God intervened and changed the course of the entire evening. After nearly four hours of heartfelt discussion and prayer, the men knew that God was about to begin something new in each of their lives and in the life of their community.
The next two weeks were spent in prayer, fasting and conversations with mentors in order to seek God's clear direction. In the months that followed, plans were put in place and the vision became a reality. On a chilly Sunday morning in December, LifePoint Church held its first worship service in Building 8 of Green Gate office park. Twenty-three people gathered, and God used that morning to knit their hearts together in a very powerful way.
With no mention of an offering having ever been made before or during that first service, that little group of 23 men, women and children brought a total of $1,400 and quietly left it on the table at the back of the room. Then, in a bold statement of faith, the church decided to give away every penny from that first week's offering, even though they very much needed that money to help begin this new work. That decision set the tone for LifePoint from that day forward, launching them into an adventurous journey of faith!
In less than three months the number of people attending the services each week exceeded the building’s occupancy limit. The church prayed an impossible prayer... asking God to provide a facility on the eastside of Greenville with multiple classrooms, a nursery, a youth room, a kitchen, and of course, a much larger auditorium... all this on a very limited budget so the church could remain debt free. God miraculously provided a space with six times the occupancy limit, and after several months of hard work, LifePoint held its first Sunday service in this beautifully renovated facility on July 25, 2004. One week later, 85 women attended the Steps to Freedom conference, something that would not have been possible in the old, smaller building, and the church marveled once again at God’s incredible timing and provision.
In the years that followed, God continued to provide additional needed space and leaders, allowing us to expand all our children's facilities. We now have a much larger and beautifully equipped nursery, and we have been able to more than double the size of our elementary and preschool classrooms and our foyer.
2009 has been a year of God stirring the people of LifePoint to impact their communities with the Gospel like never before. Our partnership with Miracle Hill Children's Home and Miracle Hill Boys' Shelter has given the LifePoint families ongoing opportunities to develop personal, hands-on relationships with orphaned and homeless children. It has been inspiring to see the children of LifePoint embracing boys and girls who have no families, celebrating their birthdays, giving of their own possessions, and sharing the love of Jesus with them.
Despite 2010 being a year of ongoing economic decline and hardship for so many, the people of LifePoint moved forward with great faithfulness and commitment to the mission of Christ. This year brought exciting new ministries to LifePoint, expanded leadership development and discipleship, church-wide involvement in our LifeGroups, and even more growth in our children's ministries and adult ministries as God continued to bring wonderful new people our way. Entire families, single adults and college students took bold steps of faith, launching out in obedience to be the hands and feet of Jesus in many different parts of Greenville and even as far away as Kenya, Liberia and Thailand! We are filled with a spirit of expectancy and great anticipation to see what God will do next. These are exciting days!
2011 and 2012 have continued to bring life change to many people through the power of Jesus! We are encouraged to see marriages being healed, men and women growing in their faith, as well as many boys and girls being impacted by our "Squire & Scroll" and "Pure Princess" ministries. We are also thrilled to announce the birth of a brand new mission work in India. LifePoint is now investing our time, ourselves and our money into helping send Bibles to India, install water wells, and free children from slavery in the rock quarries to find hope and new life in Christ! In addition to this, we have taken a step of faith this year to increase our investment locally so that our own city will continue to be impacted for eternity!
By far, the greatest story of LifePoint is the story of changed lives... the men and women, boys and girls whose lives continue to be transformed by the love of Jesus Christ! Many people have been saved and hearts have been renewed with a fresh fire for God.
We invite you to come and join us on this exciting journey!
